IPC Team Members Attend Exclusive Educational Veterinary Event
Our Company Was Hand-Selected to Learn Best Practices from World-Recognized Speakers
In February 2022, over 500+ veterinarians nationwide were invited to network with motivational, strategic and pharmaceutical partners at the 7th Annual Congress of the Veterinary Management Groups (“VMG”) in Orlando, FL.
Nine individuals from all levels of Innovetive Petcare’s management teams, from DVMs to front-line associates, were offered scholarships by Merck to attend this coveted conference. Hospital leaders spent four days honing professional, communication, medical, product, technological and recruiting skills most applicable to their day-to-day roles.
This unique opportunity is just one of the ways Innovetive Petcare invests in the professional development of our team members to help us better understand, and adapt, to the future of veterinary medicine.
Retaining Your Talent
The conference provided our leaders with a hands-on approach to understanding the mission of the VMG, starting with a presentation called, “The Speed of Trust” by the first of several keynote speakers. Recognized author, Steven MR Covey addressed a theme many veterinary companies like ours face – retaining quality talent. His presentation provided additional insight and tactics for how our veterinary teams can combat employee retention. For Covey, this was creating an environment of trust amongst our co-workers by assuming positive intent when miscommunications arise.
Focusing on Client Experience
This sentiment was echoed by motivational speaker and decorated fighter pilot, Lt. Col. Waldo Waldman. Waldman, an expert on resilience and leading through change, taught our leaders how to build a collaborative culture of courage and trust. Our team learned how airmen and women communicate during high-pressure, life-or-death situations and how trust in one another can make or break a mission, a business, or a team environment.
Another prominent theme throughout the conference was client experience. Our veterinary hospitals learned, not only how to attract new pet owners to our practices, but how do we ensure existing clients have an experience that keep them returning and advocate for our clinic. Joseph Michelli, Ph.D., C.S.P.s provided us with several branding exercises including emanating success stories from the Ritz-Carlton to Mercedes-Benz to Taco Bell.
Michelli encouraged our team members to develop our own mission statements and how they can be applied to better serving new and existing clients.
Leading Cross-Generational Teams
Jean Twenge, Professor of Psychology at San Diego State University covered another prominent industry challenge we face – leading cross-generational teams. Our leaders le
arned how to interact and lead “Gen Z” veterinary students and associates by adapting and evolving our traditional management styles. Leading a multi-generational team requires collaboration and mutual respect, a testament to Innovetive Petcare’s core values, so this was a perfect topic for our clinic leaders to embrace.
Each speaker encouraged our team members to adopt their learnings with their own veterinary teams. By attending, the Innovetive Petcare leadership team was undoubtedly reinvigorated and empowered to overcome obstacles related to our industry, work environment, and team dynamics and become difference-makers.
We would like to recognize the Innovetive Petcare attendees who took time away from their roles and families to attend this conference.
